International Award Winning Quilt Artist and Teacher

Christine Fries-Ureel was born and grew up in Belgium. A Registered Nurse she left the nursing profession when she married her American husband and came to the U.S. in 1982. Their family lives in Vermont. Christine began quilting after visiting the Vermont Quilt Festival in 1998 and seeing the beautiful quilts in the exhibit. Her pictorial art quilts have been inspired by paintings she saw in Europe. Christine uses mostly a machine-appliqué technique in her art quilts. The pieces are appliqued onto a muslin foundation, machine-appliqueing by free motion, and thread painting to add dimension.
